Elaine is a seasoned accountant with more than 20 years as a CPA. With over 10 years in the nonprofit sector, Elaine’s journey with Neighbor’s First! began with the belief that every person deserves a safe place to live.
Professional and Community Leadership
Elaine’s professional career started in public accounting after having passed all parts of the CPA Exam at the first sitting. Early in her career, she served as a senior staff accountant at a small CPA firm preparing individual, corporate and nonprofit financial statements and tax returns, as well as staffing audit and review engagements.
In the corporate world, Elaine was the Assistant Controller of a local bank, supervising the Accounting and Finance Department, where she prepared the financial statements and reports for the Board of Directors.
The last 10 years of her career were spent as the accountant for the nonprofit research foundation associated with the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Temple, Texas. She was instrumental in setting up the books and writing the policies and procedures manual for the financial department. She handled all the financial transactions, kept the accounting records, and prepared the financial statements for each of the physicians who ran medical trials at the VA. She was also responsible for preparing the nonprofit’s financial statements, tax returns and reports for the Board of Directors.
Commitment to Neighbors First!
Elaine joined Neighbors First! because she saw an increase in the number of unhoused people in Georgetown and wanted to do something to improve their situation. She believes every person in our community deserves safe, decent and affordable housing. Neighbors First! is using community-based approaches to achieve this goal.
Other Interests
Outside of the boardroom, Elaine enjoys playing tennis and pickleball as well as Mah Jongg. She is also an avid gardener and enjoys cultivating native Central Texas plants in her xeriscaped yard to attract bees, birds and butterflies.
